Digital accounts for 25% of WPP’s income, says Sorrell
I’ve just been informed that Sir Martin Sorrell appeared on Charlie Rose show, for a delightful chat of 40 minutes you won’t regret at all. I wish I could talk to him everyday. Well, this is the next best thing I can get, for now, as he is genuinely neither on Twitter, nor Friendfeed (there are apparently two bogus Sorrell’s on Twitter).
Sorrell, is firmly reinstating the vision he shared over two years ago. He then suggested that 20% of ad dollars should be spent online ASAP, as consumers already spend 20% of their media time online. Back then, digital ad spending globally and UK wise were 7% and 14% respectively. Today he sticks to the very same reasoning and proudly states that 25% of WPP’s income comes from digital. Now, you can clearly see that this man is in control of his destiny, our destiny. And yet some criticize him not being an ad man, but just a financier. Wish there were more ad men like him. He is the ad man that will save advertising and ad men around the world becoming extinct. Go Sorrell.
If you’d prefer a shorter version, you can watch the 5 minutes AdWeek Q&A that was published & quoted on February 2009. But this new one has more in-depth perspective on global economic crisis, it’s worth the time.
Note: He now credits an HBS student for the famous “frienemy” term regarding Google .
